ODOT Worker Drives Off Road and into River

Last Update: 11/03 1:51 pm

PORTLAND - Oregon State Police say an ODOT worker is lucky to have survived a plunge into the Clackamas River with his vehicle Tuesday morning. Rescuers found him sitting on the roof of his truck after he drove off a steep embankment. Officers say he was eastbound on highway 224 east of Carver when the accident happened. He narrowly missed trees, plowed through a wood fence and landed in the water.

"It's November and that water is pretty cold right now, he's probably very happy to be alive, but scared of the position he was in," said Senior Trooper Jeremy Richardson.

The ODOT worker escaped from the ordeal without serious injury. Oregon State Police are investigating the cause of the wreck. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says the driver may have had a medical condition.
